October 30, Christmas lights switch-on with a steampunk twist at Wapping Wharf Everyone is invited to Wapping Wharf's festive light switch-on with a difference, when the cast from Bristol Old Vic's 'A Christmas Carol' bring the Spirit of Christmas to life at Bristol's buzzing harbourside community.

From 5pm-9pm on Thursday 15th November, Wapping Wharf will be filled with festive cheer for everyone to enjoy - with the fully-costumed steampunk style characters from Bristol Old Vic's Christmas production performing songs from the upcoming show.

The event will mark the start of latenightthursdays — when many of Wapping Wharf's independent shops will be open until 9pm every Thursday from 15th November to 20th December, meaning shoppers have plenty of time to browse for Christmas gifts.

On the night of the switch-on, Better Food has a Giant Pumpkin Soup Party planned from 6pm-8pm, a ticketed event offering soup made from a giant pumpkin accompanied with a craft beer or fruit punch and freshly baked bread, to raise money for its 'Streets to Kitchen' project with Square Food Foundation, whilst Bristol Cider Shop will be serving hot spicy mulled cider.

Cargo Cantina will be serving a 'special' in the spirit of Christmas and Mexican festivities, the dish will be 'Bacalao Campechana'- Salt Cod, roasted red pepper and ancho chilli salsa, which will be available from 15th November until 20th December. This Christmas-themed event is one of a series of upcoming music-themed performances in the lead up to Christmas, with choir performances scheduled for 6pm on 6th December and 2pm on 8th December and more in the pipeline.

Dedicated to all things Mexican, including food, drink, music and entertainment, expect Mexican street food from Cargo Cantina including plenty of their famous famous tacos, as well as plenty of Mexican inspired Cazcabel tequila and Mezcal cocktails.

As well as the delicious food and drink offerings Mex-Fest will also feature a whole host of entertainment for all of the family, including sugar skull face painting for little and big kids alike, fire performances, sugar skull stilt walkers, magicians and of course, a traditional Mexican mariachi band.

Speaking about the event, Cargo Cantina owner Kieran Waite said: From the bright colours and entertainment for the kids and families to a great selection of authentic Mexican food and tequila and mezcal cocktails for the bigger kids, we're really looking forward to throwing a party that all of the Cargo community can get involved with.

For more information visit: CARGO Work, a new building made up of approximately 90 converted shipping containers within the stone walls of a former warehouse, will mark Wapping Wharf's first foray into the offices sector.

This unique new space, which will feature an atrium and decking on number of levels including the roof, will cater for around people across a number of businesses. This latest element of Wapping Wharf follows the huge success of CARGO, a collection of independent restaurants, food, leisure and retail outlets also housed in converted shipping containers within the quarter.

At CARGO Work, developer Umberslade hopes to replicate the sense of community and entrepreneurial spirit that has emerged among the independent businesses within CARGO and the wider Wapping Wharf quarter, creating a space where workers can collaborate and make new connections.

Under the plans, the walls of the disused J S Fry warehouse — which were formerly part of the old Bristol Gaol — will be restored and new workspace will be built inside.

This will mark the return of this site to commercial use, as the warehouse, on the corner of Wapping Road and Cumberland Road, near the Louisiana Pub, has stood empty for many years. Space ranging from 1, sq ft up to 22, sq ft will be available.
